The Federation of Persons with Disabilities (FPD) has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma reminding him regarding their various grievances that have still not been solved by the state government despite several reminders.
The federation has requested the state government to raise the unemployment allowance for disabled citizens who have at least cleared Class 10 from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 per month to help them meet basic necessities.
The FPD said that those who have applied for the Chief Minister’s Social Assistance have not received any sanction since January 2023.
The federation also wants those persons with disabilities who are employed as muster roll workers in government departments to be regularised as permanent Group D employees.
The FPD also stated that, as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, the government should appoint one member in the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) and one in each of the District Selection Committees (DSCs) to be responsible for job recruitment of disabled persons.
The government was also requested to identify posts for the disabled before sending the advertisements to the MPSC and DSCs.
