Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar today said that the existence of too many regional political parties in the state has weakened the regional forces.
“The people of the state want to see only one strong regional party in the state and I wish to see that the strongest regional party makes it in the 2023 election,” he said.
He however did not reveal whether he will join the UDP but stated that “the achievement of the UDP at present is like never before and it will continue to grow in 2023.”
“Whatever party I will be joining will be revealed on time but the party comes second and the jaitbynriew comes first,” he stated.
Tongkhar said he won the 2018 election because of the backing of both the HSPDP and UDP. “I have given my best service to both parties. I have served the HSPDP in the best possible way I could and I have campaigned vigorously for the UDP in all the by-elections including the MP election and there is no betrayal,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the HSPDP has expected Renikton to quit the party in favour of UDP and has already fixed one Medalsing Lyngdoh Tongkhar as his replacement for the 2023 elections.
