A 37-year-old pedestrian was killed after a truck overturned at Umsning bypass near Umtrew in Ri Bhoi district today, police said.
The woman identified as Cleris Nongsiej was returning from a funeral when the truck loaded with galvanised steel rods overturned at around 4 pm.
Police said Nongsiej, a resident of Umtrew with six children was an employee of the Health department.
The driver of the truck bearing registration number JH 05 CX 4295 fled after the crash and is yet to be arrested.
