In a not too subtle dig at sitting Mawhati MLA Dasakhiatbha Lamare, supporters of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) donated money to their candidate in next year’s Assembly elections in order to put an end to ‘money power’.
Lamare, of the National People’s Party (NPP) is one of the richest legislators in the current Assembly but is not a resident of Mawhati. He became infamous for buying a supercar costing several crores of rupees recently. However, he is rumoured to be considering a run from another constituency in 2023.
To send a message that they cannot be lured by money and to set an example for other electorates in the state, local residents of Mawhati on Saturday donated money to the PDF candidate, Roswell Shadap.
The party held a meeting in Mawpat village to confirm its Mawhati zone leaders.
Banteidor Lyngdoh, the president of the PDF and cabinet minister, attended the meeting to confirm the new leaders.
Around 500 residents who are supporters of the PDF attended the meeting and they vowed not only to stop the use of money power in the upcoming election but to also reject ‘outside’ candidates.
“Local candidate know the problems of the constituency much better” said new president of the PDF Mawhati zone, Kynpham Mynsong, adding that the public have been neglected by Lamare.
Mynsong added that, for the last four years, the people of Mawhati have not seen any change in the constituency and the people have yet to even meet the MLA physically.
