PDF general secretary Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang will contest the 2023 Assembly elections from Mawphlang constituency.
The decision was taken at a party meeting held yesterday.
With his decision to join the electoral fray in 2023, Mawphlang will be the third candidate in the race for Mawphlang seat.
The UDP has made up its mind to field sitting party MLA Eugeneson Lyngdoh while the NPP is likely to put up former MLA Kennedy C. Khyriem.
The PDF recently suffered a setback as two of its four sitting MLAs have indicated their decision to leave the party and contest the 2023 polls on NPP ticket.
The two MLAs include cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling and Jason Mawlong who are representing Mylliem and Umsning constituencies respectively.
Newly elected party president Gavin Miguel Mylliem will seek reelection from Sohra constituency while cabinet minister and former party president Banteidor Lyngdoh will contest from Mawkynrew constituency.
