The state government continued with its rural welfare push with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurating Patharkhmah civil sub-division in Western Ri-Bhoi and distributing funds to promote sustainable livelihood.
Meanwhile, Rongjeng administrative unit was upgraded to civil sub-division in East Garo Hills.
Speaking on the occasion in Patharkhmah, Sangma said: “Glad for the people of Patharkhmah as we upgraded the Western Ri-Bhoi administrative unit into the new Patharkhmah civil sub-division over 27 years after its creation. The upgradation is an important step towards the development of the border villages in western part of ‘Aspirational District’ Ri-Bhoi.”
However, in a press release later, it was announced that, in view of a report submitted to the government by the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, the list of villages that fall under Patharkhmah has been reworked.
A list notified on November 21 was thus cancelled. This was because the DC reported that several villages in that original list are actually much closer to the district headquarters of Nongpoh and not Patharkhmah. Therefore, in terms of administrative convenience and after due consideration, the government amended the list of villages notified earlier.
