Umroi Airport touched a new high in terms of passenger numbers this past week, with a record 555 taking off or landing at Shillong’s closes airport.
The airport first touched 500 passengers in December but then saw numbers drop off as the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Thankfully, that wave was brief and passengers have returned quickly.
According to a tweet from the Airports Authority of India, Shillong, 298 passengers arrived at Umroi and 257 departed from it, giving the airport a total of 555.
Centrally subsidised flights operate from the airport to Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Kolkata, Aizawl, Imphal and Silchar. The only negative point is that the state government subsidised service to and from New Delhi has been put in abeyance by the operator, flybig.
