Shillong, Sep 17 : HSPDP Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said today that he is happy to leave the decision on whether he will get a cabinet berth up to the wisdom of his party.
“At any point in time, whenever I get a chance to do good to anyone it has always been a very happy moment of my life but if I have to wait for anyone to do good to me it is not a happy moment of my life. I pray that I just get the chance to do more good to others,” Tongkhar told Highland Post.
The HSPDP has two MLAs in the current Assembly – Tongkhar and Sohiong MLA Samlin Malngiang. The latter currently occupies the sole cabinet seat allotted to the party with Malngiang holding the Public Health Engineering portfolio, among others.
On Monday Tongkhar had said that he was ready to take over Malngiang’s cabinet berth, as per, he said an agreement with his party colleague that they would share the seat during the government’s five-year term. This month marked the halfway mark in the life of the government.
Malngiang, however, soon responded by saying there was never any formal agreement between the two on seat-sharing but would also abide by the party’s decision on the matter.
“The best thing is to wait for the party leadership to decide on this issue and I think it is not wise to give separate statements but it will only be conducive if statements are given in the presence of both of the HSPDP MLAs along with the presence of the ad hoc HSPDP President, KP Pangniang,” he said while not wanting to comment on Malngiang’s assertion that there was no agreement.
