Sankardev College organised a symposium on the theme ‘Article 371(A), Article 371(G) and the Constitutional Provisions under Article 244(2)/Sixth Schedule’ here today.
The programme was attended and addressed by representatives of political parties and legal experts and was important for its timing ahead of the district council elections on February 21 where this subject has taken on great significance.
Senior advocates Erwin K Syiem Sutnga and Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait, Manuel Badwar of the Congress Party, Robertjune Kharjahrin of the United Democratic Party, and Mewaker Lyngdoh of the Bharatiya Janata Party expressed their views and opinions, with relevant examples and references on the theme.
The speakers deliberated on the impact of these constitutional provisions on governance, autonomy and indigenous rights, pertaining to Meghalaya and the coming elections, a press release informed.
The program was hosted and moderated by Phibasiewdor Dohling and Rapmebantei Kharkongor, Assistant Professors of the college. Around 300 participants, including faculty and students of 20 different colleges and universities of the state, attended the programme.
