The Committee on Empowerment of Women, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be taking up issues related to the rights of women in unorganised sectors.
Speaking to Highland Post Chairperson of the committee Ampareen Lyngdoh said that they have received several complaints on denial of the rights of women in unorganised sectors.
“We have heard that women working in unorganized sectors through agencies are not getting their dues, pregnant women are not getting their maternity leave, some are not getting their sick leave, etc,” she said, adding that the committee will soon be summoning the various agencies.
She said everybody is sending the complaints and she will call all the agencies to find out if there is any truth in these allegations.
“We will try to look at this aspect because this is concerning and not fair if it’s happening,” she added.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh will also check on the recent report of a woman alleged harassed by the dorbar shnong of Pathardaro in Ri Bhoi district.
The dorbar Shnong of Pathardaro had, in a dispute with a woman who lives there, torn up her crops, cut off her water supply and ostracised her family.
According to the woman, this is all because the village dorbar has deemed her to be a non-local.
These incidents took place in January but have only been recently reported to police by the victim, Regina Marbaniang.
