The office of the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner has constituted the district level appraisal committee to present Good Samaritan awards to individuals, who come to the rescue of road accident victim by rushing them to hospital within the ‘golden hour’ of the mishap.
The District Magistrate will be the chairman of the committee, while the Superintendent of Police District Medical & Health Officer will be the members and the District Transport Officer will be the member secretary.
This was done after the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway launched a scheme for grant of award to the Good Samaritan who has saved life of a victim of a fatal accident involving a motor vehicle. The scheme is an initiative to reduce fatalities on the road and also to motivate the general public to come forward to save lives of road accident victims.
“Any deserving cases for the award will be brought to the attention of the committee for scrutiny and recommendation,” the notification said.
