Shillong MP Vincent Pala, Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh and representatives of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) met with Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar in Guwahati today to discuss the impasse over creating a Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Kyrdemkulai, Ri-Bhoi.
Lyngdoh and the KSU submitted separate memorandums on the issue to Tomar.
In a release, the KSU said it had conveyed its unhappiness that the Centre had only set up an agricultural college in Kyrdemkulai, affiliated to CAU Imphal, instead of setting up a separate varsity as the people of Meghalaya had been led to believe when the state government secured 200 acres of land in Kyrdemkulai for the purpose.
Tomar reportedly told the KSU that he will raise the matter in New Delhi.
