The Meghalaya High Court has sought details from the State government regarding the number of cases where overloaded goods vehicles were required to shed the overload before being allowed to pass and the cases instituted against them for overloading.
The order was passed by the division bench of the High Court today on a PIL filed by social activist Tennydard M. Marak.
The court also asked the State government to provide the details pertaining to such cases from April 1, 2022 till date.
During today’s hearing, an affidavit was also filed on behalf of Marak taking exception to the report filed by the State government and several anomalies, particularly relating to the functioning of the limited number of weighbridges in the State have been pointed out.
“The State should address the issues and satisfy the court that there is a system in place for ensuring adherence to the load limits which have been notified,” the High Court said while listing the matter for hearing on November 16.
