Despite a High Court order banning heavily loaded trucks from plying on the Umiam Bridge, MDC Bindo Lanong claimed today in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) that this order is being flouted at will.
Mylliem MDC Ronnie Lyngdoh, who was worried that the estimated life of the bridge has been exceeded but heavy trucks still use it daily.
Earlier, Lanong said that trucks use the bridge every night and many of them are overloaded.
“This is also for the information of the High Court that, to date, every night overloaded, heavy trucks are plying on the Umiam Bridge and ignoring the High Court order,” he said.
The MDCs said that the state government should come up with a solution to this problem immediately and that the KHADC executive committee should take up the matter with the government at the earliest.
