Over 300 individuals today took part in the Independence Day run held in South West Khasi Hills district.
Held annually to celebrate freedom, the event was organised by the District Sports Officer office in collaboration with the district administration and the District Sports Promotion Society.
The route of this year’s run covered Iew Mawlein, Jakrem, Sakwang, Pyndengsakwang villages and concluded at Circuit House in Laitlawsang.
Deputy Commissioner, Barnari Mawlong flagged off the run in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner LT Tariang, Superintendent of Police GD Kharwanlang, Mawkyrwat BDO I. Lawriniang and DSO Damang Syngkon among others.
In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner said that the people of the district are well known for their passion for running, with many local runners having represented the district in various events.
He also mentioned that the Independence Day Run is organised annually across the state and encouraged all participants to take part in the run with a spirit of sportsmanship.
