A total amount of Rs. 17, 48,924 was distributed as relief funds to 58 victims affected by natural disasters in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla was present during the programme held at the office of the deputy commissioner in Khliehriat yesterday. He said the relief fund is distributed to the victims based on the damage assessment and the prescribed norms and guidelines of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
He lauded the district administration for its swift response in assessing the damages during any form of calamities and for providing immediate financial assistance to the families and individuals affected by calamities such as fire, flood, landslide, etc, so that they can recover from their losses, for rebuilding and restarting their activities.
The Minister also urged other districts of the State to speed up the process of distributing relief funds and urged the public to report and inform to their respective district administration, block development officers, gram sevak and local headmen in cases of any natural calamity in their respective villages for immediate response and relief.
