An orientation programme on the National Legal Services Authority’s (NALSA) “DAWN-Unit” initiative was held today at the Conference Hall of the Office of the District & Sessions Court, Nongstoiñ.
The programme aimed to promote awareness about substance abuse and wellness navigation, aligning with the NALSA’s vision of a “Drug-Free India.”
D.M.K.S. Shadap, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), delivered the welcome speech and introduction. M. Skhemlon, District & Sessions Judge cum Chairperson, DLSA, addressed the objectives of the DAWN-Unit.
Key sessions included a presentation on “Understanding Substance Abuse – Causes & Consequences” by the Drug Inspector of West Khasi Hills District, and a discussion on the “Role of the District Legal Services Authority in Prevention & Rehabilitation”.
The programme concluded with an open discussion on planning DAWN-Unit activities at the district level, with active participation from stakeholders. The event marked a significant step towards promoting awareness and combating substance abuse in the region.
