Several organisations in Garo Hills today protested against the brutal assault of a woman inside the Dudnoi police station, Assam and demanded strict action against the police personnel involved.
A protest rally was held at Bangsi Apal school playground which was attended by several organisations and students.
A Garo woman from Dainadubi in North Garo Hills was assaulted and subjected to torture inside the police station. The woman had accompanied her husband after the latter was summoned to the police station in connection with a coal theft case on July 4.
After reaching the police station, the husband left for some other work but the woman remained.
Meanwhile, two police personnel – SI Bishnu Bahadur Newar and woman police constable Mamata Joshi — who were allegedly involved in the police excesses on the Garo woman have been suspended.
