Leader of the opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Titosstarwell Chyne, has accused the executive committee of playing around with nomenclature to have its way in the council.
The KHADC winter session is scheduled to begin on December 20.
However, speaking to Highland Post, Chyne, the former Chief Executive Member of the KHADC, said that normal sessions should occur every four months but the last time the council sat, for a special session, it was counted as a normal session.
“The normal session should have happened in October but they have counted the special session (in September) as a normal session. During a special session we cannot discuss anything and there was only the EC (executive committee) business. It cannot be counted as a normal session and we strongly oppose such behaviour,” he said.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) leader also said that the opposition will speak up at the coming session on the performance of the executive committee in these past months.
He dismissed the idea that the KHADC under Pyniaid Sing Syiem, Chyne’s replacement as CEM, had done anything special by inspecting shops to see whether they have the requisite licences, saying that this is normal procedure and the council is duty bound to do it.
