Opposition parties in the State have expressed concern over yesterday bomb blast at Khyndai Lad here and accused the MDA government of failing to ensure security in the State.
Leader of opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma said the blast would not only disturb peace but also have an adverse impact on development.
“Highly disturbed to hear IED blast at Shillong which not only can upset peace we restored but also retard dev; everybody should join in condemning this act of cowardice. Govt must act … restore their focus,” Dr. Sangma said in his tweet.
Dr. Sangma, a former chief minister, also lambasted Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for the law and order situation in the State and said that dedicated police officers were shunted out by the government.
“A blast in the heart of d state capital is very dangerous – what is happening Mr @SangmaConrad? Didn’t we hand over a peaceful state in 2018? Have you shunted all the dedicated, efficient police officers at d cost of people’s interest?” he added.
State president of Trinamool Congress, Charles Pyngrope also lambasted the chief minister for the current insecurity in the State.
“People of Meghalaya ARE NOT SAFE under Mr.@Conrad Sangma watch! Explosion at Police Bazar, a prime market hub in Shillong on a Sunday evening has rattled the capital. I strongly condemn the state government’s inability to ensure the safety and security of our state,” Pyngrope tweeted.
Trinamool Congress MLA George B. Lyngdoh in his tweet said, “The low intensity blast in Khyndailad, which is the heart of Meghalaya is another strike to dislodge peace in the State. The State Govt has repeatedly been caught napping & failing to protect the people. I strongly condemn this act of cowardice.”
Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party leader Ampareen Lyngdoh tweeted, “I unequivocally condemn the act of terror committed last evening in Shillong. The Meghalaya government has failed to prevent yet another IED explosion and it needs to act swiftly against such acts of cowardice.”
