Rongrong MDC Rinaldo K Sangma today expressed concern over the allegedly substandard construction of the 1.6km-long Beru Bari to Sarongkol road under Resubelpara constituency.
Sangma, of the opposition Trinamool Congress, paid a visit to the site and found out that construction is being done in, he said, a very poor manner.
“Upon inquiry from the Executive Engineer in charge of North Garo Hills, it is found that the contract work is allotted to one Takin Arengh, who is a close aide and crony of the local MLA,” Sangma said. The MLA of Resubelpara is Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Timothy D Shira.
Sangma alleged that with the backing of the MLA, Arengh has captured almost all Public Works Department (PWD) contract works in Resubelpara and most of them are being constructed in a substandard manner.
He also pointed out that some of the projects have been abandoned by the contractor.
The MDC also informed that he has intimated the Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills to direct the contractor to rectify works and will write to the Public Accounts Committee of the Assembly to see to this matter at the earliest.
