The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today praised its central leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the launch of the 12th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme of the agriculture ministry.
State BJP president, Ernest Mawrie said Meghalaya is a huge beneficiary of the scheme. “More than 2.05 lakh farmer families from Meghalaya received funds under this scheme, benefiting almost 8 lakh individuals,” he said.
Mawrie expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for taking care of the farmers of Meghalaya and said, “It is only the BJP government which is truly pro-poor, and takes care of the last man in the society, be it farmers, or anyone else.”
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmer families are provided a benefit of Rs. 6000 per year in three equal installments of Rs. 2000 each, every four months.
The benefit is transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer mode, using modern digital technology.
A government press release said, so far eligible farmer families have received benefit of more than Rs. 2 lakh crore under PM-KISAN through 11 installments. Of this, Rs 1.6 lakh Crore has been transferred during the COVID pandemic period.
With the 12th installment, the total amount transferred to the beneficiaries is expected to cross well over Rs 2.16 lakh crore, it added.
