As Meghalaya experienced shortage of the Covid vaccine, the number of persons in the State who have received the full dose of the vaccination is still very low.
According to data provided by the National Health Mission, Meghalaya, only 74,148 have received the second dose of the Covid vaccine in the State.
The total number of citizens aged 45 years and above who have been vaccinated with the first dose is 2,29,061.
Further, it was informed that the total doses administered till date is 4,34,031.
Shortage of vaccines has delayed the third phase of the Covid-19 inoculation drive for the age group of 18-45 in Meghalaya.
Though permission to start vaccination was granted on May 1, Meghalaya is facing shortage of vaccines.
The State requires close to 30 lakh shots of Covishield to vaccinate people of age groups between 18-44.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya government has requested the Centre to provide a fund of Rs 120 crore to vaccinate people aged between 18 and 45 years in the third phase of the Covid vaccination drive.
Recently, Health Minister A L Hek had said that the State would need Rs 120 crore to inoculate around 15 lakh people in the 18-45 age group.
Hek said that the vaccine price is fixed as Rs 400 per dose and the Meghalaya government had requested the Centre to approve the fund of Rs 120 crore or ask the manufacturers to provide the vaccine at Rs 150 per dose.
