A web portal called the “Meghalaya Rice Information System” (MeRIS) has now gone live, after being set up by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and North East Space Application Centre (NESAC).
The portal presents an online spatial database for rice ecosystem in Meghalaya, which was created through analysis of geospatial satellite imagery and presented in 1:10,000 scale. High resolution satellite imagery was also used to analyse the data followed by ground truth validation. The district wise rice maps provide a tool for precision planning, decision support and better targeting of rice development in the state in a scientific and objective manner.
This project has been implemented under the Meghalaya State Rice Mission. A user manual and video tutorial on how to navigate the portal is also available on the home page at https://apps.nesdr.gov.in/mris/index.html
