One person was killed in Mairang as violence erupted post-result today.
Police said the identity of the person is still unknown and his body was found in a place where tyres were burning. His body was taken to Mairang civil hospital.
Violence erupted in the district headquarter of Eastern West Khasi Hills district as an angry mob started pelting stones and burnt cars outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office after the counting of votes for the assembly elections got over.
According to reports, Congress supporters were not satisfied with the results that declared UDP candidate, Metbah Lyngdoh as the winner. The supporters accused the returning officer of giving out incorrect result.
Police said situation is slightly tensed till filing of this report.
