‘Designated Driver Shillong’, an on-demand driver service was launched in the city today.
The launch was held at the Shillong Press Club which was attended by Cabinet Minister, Alexander Hek Laloo as the chief guest.
The service is meant to offer drivers to individuals who need transportation immediately.
Proprietor of the service, Donboklang Dohling said people in need of a driver under any situation will be catered to. He informed that in case of accidents people panic and unable to drive further, and in such situations the service can assist to pick up the vehicle and get it to its designated location.
Pointing out that there could be a good number of circumstances that might lead to the requirement of designated drivers, Dohling said for the service provider, there are, essentially, only two types of services, that is, simple pick-up and drop, where the driver is required to simply drive the vehicle from point A to point B and a casual and temporary chauffeur assignment, lasting for a specific period of time.
He said anyone can place a call and request the service and clients would have to provide information about the nature of their situation and the nature of service required, location and destination and some personal details, which will be confidential.
“If the service coordinator on duty is satisfied with the genuineness of the call, services will be delivered to the client,” he added.
He said the drivers contracted with the service provider would be reliable, discreet and of high integrity and are police verified.
