A fire broke out late Monday night after an oil tanker overturned on the National Highway in Assam, triggering panic among nearby residents and commuters.
The tanker, heading towards Jorabat from Guwahati, lost control and capsized near the NRL petrol pump at 11th Mile, spreading thick black smoke and flames visible from a distance.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) teams from Byrnihat and Assam rushed to the spot and successfully brought the fire under control.
However, the incident caused a massive traffic jam that lasted for several hours. Joint efforts by Assam and Meghalaya Police eventually cleared the road, and traffic resumed normal flow this morning.
Ri Bhoi Police reported that the oil spill may have spread towards Mawsmai village, and a team has been dispatched to monitor the situation closely.
Further updates are awaited as more details are received.
