Construction of six newly created community and rural development block offices in the State is set to take place this year.
The Community and Rural Development Department has decided to construct the offices of the new blocks at Mawlai, Mawpat (both East Khasi Hills), Bhoirymbong (Ri-Bhoi), Bajengdoba (North Garo Hills), Demdema (West Garo Hills) and Damalgre (South West Garo Hills).
Each block office will be constructed at an amount of Rs 2,25,80,000 and the amount has already been sanctioned by the Community and Rural Development Department.
The department has invited technical and financial bids from contractors and construction firms for the project. The bids will be opened on September 9.
These six blocks were created in 2017 during the tenure of Dr. Mukul Sangma as chief minister.
However, due to fund constraints the State government could not construct the office buildings of these blocks and all of them till date are operating from rented buildings.
