Editor,
A letter by Salil Gewali (dated Jan 19) in a local English daily in which he mentioned of “bathroom brushes used for cleaning of plates” during the opening ceremony of the Meghalaya Games is more than a shock and is absolutely gross for any person in a right sense in his or her mind.
An incident like this if it has really occurred should be investigated and the Sports Minister should hold accountable the people in his department and the contractor should be held responsible if any untoward health risks occur.
Secondly, what can be more astonishing is the rampant and illogical appointment of retired bureaucrats in various positions which in itself defeats the very purpose of even having a state employment policy. None of the pressure groups who shout against non-tribals for taking away jobs have dared to question the State government on this matter leave alone taking to the streets.
How shameless it is for people to even accept such appointments. Inspite of having a huge fat pension benefit they dare to deprive genuine people of their positions.
Finally, while the rural youths are deprived of a low cost gymnasium that would help them in preparing for sports this government has dared to install a gym for its officers as if they would be competing for the Olympics.
Only God can save this State and its pathetic form of governance filled with arrogance.
