The odd-even rule to curb the spread of Covid-19 has irked shopkeepers in Mawkyrwat and has appealed the district administration to withdraw it.
A large number of shopkeepers in the district headquarter of South West Khasi Hills district went to the market yesterday and tried to open their shops which according to them they are reeling under heavy losses.
Shopkeepers claim in order to meet their family needs they are defying the odd-even rules and protesting against it.
A heated argument also ensued between the shopkeepers and the district administrators. The shopkeepers alleged that the Block Development Officer was using harsh words and that his behaviour was unacceptable.
They also demanded removal of the BDO while the KSU, Mawkyrwat circle has demanded an apology.
The shopkeepers further said that if the district administration does away with the odd-even rule they will abide by all safety rules.
