Youths from Mizoram and Tripura are in Meghalaya to take part in the inter-state youth exchange programme organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
The programme which began today, aims to foster cultural exchange, national integration, and leadership development among young participants from different states.
The youths from Mizoram are camped in Shillong and those from Tripura in Resubelpara.
In Shillong, the inauguration function was held at the Youth Hostel which was attended by Director of Sports & Youth Affairs DD Shira as the chief guest.
In his speech, Shira highlighted the importance of such exchange programmes in strengthening unity and leadership among youth. He informed that a team from Meghalaya is on its way to Indonesia for an international youth exchange, reinforcing the significance of learning from both national and global experiences.
NYK, Shillong Director D. Rapsang said such initiatives celebrate India’s unity in diversity while fostering mutual understanding among its people. “Through structured engagement, we aim to showcase the rich heritage of different states, instil a spirit of national integration, and create an environment of learning and collaboration,” he said.
In North Garo Hills the inauguration was held at the Mendipathar Multi Purpose Hall.
Additional Deputy Commissioner TR Marak who attended the programme as the chief guest underscored the importance of robust interaction between the youth, the community members and the entrepreneurs in order for the programme to achieve its objectives. He also motivated the participants to foster the sense of comradeship while experiencing the diverse culture and heritage which was imperative for the progress of the state and the country as a whole.
NYK, Williamnagar Deputy Director LB K Sangma highlighted the objective of the programme. He said the programme was also being held in other 60 states of India under the same objective.
Throughout the programme, participants will engage in various activities, including interactions with eminent personalities, language learning, cultural exchanges, and visits to historical sites.
