A group of nurses from the State today met Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and expressed their strong opposition against the recent recruitment of staff nurses under contract basis.
The nurses in their petition submitted to the minister said that the decision of the Health Department to recruit nurses on contract basis is unjustified and urged her to scrap the recruitment process.
Lyngdoh assured the nurses that she would address their concerns and call them for another meeting next week to discuss the matter further.
It may be mentioned that the Director of Health Service (MI), recently invited online applications from the candidates who are domiciled in the State of Meghalaya for 325 posts of staff nurses on contractual basis to be engaged in First Referral Unit and Critical Care Unit. The last date for receiving an application is July 15.
The number of post district wise is: East Khasi Hills (42), Ri-Bhoi (27), South West Khasi Hills (29), West Jaintia Hills (51), West Khasi Hills (30), Eastern West Khasi Hills (33), West Garo Hills (37), North Garo Hills (16), South Garo Hills (18), East Garo Hills (24) and South West Garo Hills (18).
The salary for the nurses was fixed at Rs 30,000 per month. The qualification for candidates is B.Sc. Nursing/ General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised institution by the Indian Nursing Council. The candidate should be registered under the Meghalaya Nursing Council.
