The New Tura Development Forum has urged union home minister Amit Shah to prevail upon the chief ministers of Meghalaya and Assam to review and revoke the border agreement immediately as it was done without the consent of the people in the border.
In a letter to the Shah, the forum said that the settlement as per the agreement has not gone done well with the people of Meghalaya as grave injustice has been done to the inhabitants of many villages along the inter-state border.
Pointing out that most the villages will now fall in Assam as per the agreement, the forum also said that the negotiations between the two chief ministers was made in haste without going into ground realities and without adequate consultations and not even the opinion of the autonomous district councils.
The forum said that the affected portion of land falls under the Sixth Schedule areas.
“The action tantamount to disrespect to the ADCs and we strongly oppose and reject the agreement,” the forum added.
