Shillong, Sep 17 : The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) hits back at the opposition Congress stating that it has adopted a below-the-belt tactic.
Reacting to the statement of Congress spokesperson Zenith Sangma who cited complete failure of the Meghalaya government in fighting Covid-19, the NPYF on Thursday said, “This should not be taken seriously. The habitual ranting of the same leadership against the MDA government has widely reflected its sheer desperation and the running out of ideas to engage in proactive politics.”
Stating that the “loose criticism” NPYF national working president Nickey Nongkhlaw said the Congress has discounted the trust and cooperation of the community-based organisations with the MDA government.
“If there is any failure as alleged, it is the failure of the combined effort of the citizens and the government,” Nongkhlaw said, adding, “The Congress could have been more grateful and take a lead during the pandemic with a spirit of humanity. But it is unfortunate that it has to resort to desperate measures to pull the government down with concocted facts and figures.”
Nongkhlaw said, the statement made by the Congress against the government is secondary. He said the statement is a direct disregard to the front line workers.
The NPYF further said the discontentment showed by the Congress on the appointment of junior bureaucrats as CMD of the MeECL is because of vested interest.
“The NPYF understands that the only vested interest of the present government is its belief in young people, talents and innovations. If the Congress chooses to get stuck in the status-quo and old-school thinking of belittling people, then it is their call and destiny,” Nongkhlaw said.
