Is the NPP planning to snatch power in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC)?
According to sources, there is a likelihood of a change in the Executive Committee of KHADC next month.
Sources said that the political equation in KHADC could happen after the merger of the PDF with the NPP which is expected before May 8.
If PDF merged with the NPP, the strength of the Conrad Sangma-led party would rise to 28. If NPP wins Sohiong Assembly election, the party’s strength would go up to 29.
Sources said that NPP after being in a comfortable position at the government will turn its eyes to KHADC.
In the 30-member House, NPP has twelve MDCs while UDP has nine, HSPDP one, independent one and one nominated MDC.
If the NPP moves ahead with its plan, chances are that KHADC Chief Executive Member Titos Chyne may lose his chair and the UDP may have to play second fiddle in the council.
Addressing an election meeting at Sohiong on April 22, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had said that major political changes are happening next month. “Wait and watch,” he said.
