Ahead of the upcoming state elections, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) received a boost in its Umsning unit, with several members of the National People’s Party (NPP) joining it today at Umjarasi village, Ri-Bhoi.
More than a hundred NPP members and their supporters formally joined the HSPDP, where they were welcomed by party president KP Pangniang.
These NPP figures included the Umsning unit working president Tarson Nongkseh, treasurer SP Nongbet, organising secretary Donbor Marbaniang and youth wing president Ribok Kharpan.
The meeting was also attended by the HSPDP’s Umsning constituency candidate, Primson Makdoh, HSPDP district president PB Sylliang, Mawkynrew MDC Martle N Mukhim and other party leaders.
Pangniang extended his gratitude to the NPP members for joining the HSPDP party and exhorted them to work together for the victory of the party.
He also enlightened the people about the party manifesto, which aims to safeguard the culture and identity of the indigenous Khasi people.
The HSPDP has just two sitting MLAs, in Sohiong and Mawkyrwat, though both look likely to leave the party before the next election, which is due by March 2023.
