The NPP kept with it most of the key departments in the MDA-2 government leaving the alliance partners like UDP, BJP and HSPDP with minor and insignificant departments.
As per the allocation of portfolios notified today, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma kept for himself the portfolios of Finance, Planning, Cabinet Affairs, Forest, Home (Political), Personnel, Elections, Programme and Implementation, Investment Promotion, Information Technology and Communication, Mining and Geology.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong was allocated Home (Police), PWD, District Council Affairs, and Parliamentary Affairs departments.
The other Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar was given the charge of Urban Affairs, Transport, Industries, and Prison and Correctional Services.
Lone woman in the cabinet, Ampareen Lyngdoh, got Health and Family Welfare, Law, Information and Public Relations, and Agriculture departments.
Comingone Ymbon got Food & Civil Supplies & Consumers Affairs, Water Resources, Home (Civil Defense & Home Guards) and Cooperation departments.
Abu Taher Mondal was allocated Power, Community & Rural Development, and Taxation departments.
Marcuise N. Marak was given Public Health Engineering, Housing, and Soil & Water Conservation departments.
Rakkam A. Sangma got Education, General Administration and Border Areas Development departments.
The ministers from the three parties that supported the government had to be content with whatever was left out.
Alexander L. Hek of the BJP was given Veterinary, Fisheries, Printing and Stationery, and the Secretariat Administration departments.
Paul Lyngdoh of the UDP got Social Welfare, Tourism, Textiles, Arts and Culture departments, while his party colleague Kyrmen Shylla was allocated Excise, Revenue, Home (Passport) and Legal Metrology departments.
Shakliar Warjri of the HSPDP was given Sports and Youth Affairs, Labour, Registration and Stamps departments.
The portfolios were announced after the chief minister chaired the first cabinet meeting of the new government.
Meanwhile, UDP president and former Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh who was not inducted in the cabinet will be appointed as the chairman of the State Planning Board.
