The junior coalition partners in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government were not serious enough regarding the mess in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL), ex-Nongkrem MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit said today.
Referring to the controversy of outsourcing 56 of sub-stations, which has now been paused pending clarifications asked for by the Chief Minister, Basaiawmoit said the issue could have been nipped in the bud had the junior partners been more mindful of the issues at hand.
“It would also not have been necessary for private individuals and various NGOs to raise this issue if constituents of the present ruling dispensation are serious and seized of the matter,” Basaiawmoit said.
Although the government has now paused the outsourcing, it remains to be seen whether this was done only to appease the stakeholders or is a sincere attempt to address the problems, he added.
