Two former Chief Executive Members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council joined the United Democratic Party today.
Rangkynsai Makdoh (who had made his intentions clear just two days ago) and Cleophas B Syiem joined the UDP today. The same function saw RB Shadap, the President of the Ri-Bhoi Dorbar, also join the party.
Makdoh and Syiem are former National People’s Party members.
They were welcomed into the fold by Speaker of the Assembly and UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh in the presence of Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein, former cabinet minister HDR Lyngdoh and other leaders of the UDP.
Makdoh, Syiem and Shadap said they hoped to see the UDP, as the biggest regional party in the state, come to power at the next state elections, which must be held by March 2023.
Lyngdoh expressed his gratitude to the trio for choosing the UDP. He added that the main agenda of the party is to bring all-round development to Meghalaya.
