Shillong, Jul 26: The first North East regional meeting of Sports Ministers, Secretaries and State Olympic Associations was held here to deliberate on the preparations for the 39th National Games.
The meeting was chaired by Meghalaya Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Kento Jini. The ministers called on the North East states to come forward and be part of the historic national games to be hosted by Meghalaya.
The meeting aimed to align the efforts of all eight North Eastern states for the upcoming games. One of the key agenda discussed was the proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs encouraging each of the other seven North Eastern states to host at least one sporting discipline a first of its kind during the upcoming games as a symbol of regional unity and partnership.
The meeting concluded with broad support expressed for Meghalaya’s preparations and the multi-state hosting concept. Delegates agreed to reconvene in the near future to finalize logistical and operational details of the proposal.
The occasion marked a historic milestone in strengthening inter-state collaboration in sports and reiterated the region’s commitment to showcasing its collective potential on the national sporting stage.
To express regional solidarity and collaboration, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma was also felicitated at the State Convention Center by representatives of the State Olympic Associations of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, for his visionary leadership and commitment in preparing Meghalaya to host the 39th National Games in 2027.
