The Silviculture Division of the Forest & Environment Department collaborated with the Special Purpose Vehicle Society (SPVS) for the development of mining affected areas and Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited (LUMPL) to celebrate World Environment Day in Nongtrai and Shella.
The two-day celebration which concluded yesterday, was to create awareness on the importance of protection and conservation of the environment in line with the theme, “Only One Earth.”
Around 2000 saplings were distributed and planted in the two villages with the involvement of the students of various schools and the community members.
As part of the ‘Orange Rejuvenation’ initiative, a total of a 1000 orange saplings were also distributed to all households of Nongtrai Village to help regenerate orange plantation in the village.
Winners of the run up program to the Word Environment Day from various schools of these two villages were also felicitated during the program.
Chief Conservator of Forest (Climate Change, Research & Development), Badonlang Wahlang, Sanwar M Swami, Divisional Forest Officer, Silviculture Division, Secretary of the SPVS B Chyne, DGM for CSR, HR & Comms., Orynica Dhar of LUMPL, Project manager of SPVS, and other officials from the Forest Department, SPVS & LUMPL took part in the celebration.
