Based on allegations that a scam to the tune of Rs 149 crore is being carried out in the Power Department, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has called for an immediate investigation.
A local newspaper published a report today about the ‘scam’ in the implementation of the Saubhagya Scheme, which is meant to provide electricity to all Indian households, in Meghalaya. The basis for the story published today was supposedly a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). However, the CAG has reportedly denied ever releasing such a report.
Speaking to this reporter today, Syiem said that it is the duty of the government to take immediate action against such a massive misuse of public money.
Syiem also demanded that the central government intervene, as the scheme is funded by the Centre.
