With an aim to preserve all types of wild animals that live in the Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary, in Ri-Bhoi, the Forest and Environment Department inaugurated a mural and patrol camp within the reserve.
The painting highlights the animals that need to be conserved, while the patrol camp should make it easier for Forest Department staff in carrying out their duties. Both were funded through special assistance from the central government.
The camp was inaugurated by BL Lyngwa, the Principal Chief Conservator, in the presence of RS Gill, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Territorial, HC Chaudhary, Chief Wildlife Warden, students of Alpha English Higher Secondary School in Nongpoh and officers and staff of the Forest Department.
Lyngwa and Gill also appealed to the general public of Ri-Bhoi and the state as a whole to stop unwanted hunting and killing of animals as this could lead to their total extinction.
