Shillong, Sep 22: The Khasi Students’ Union (South Central East Circle) and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (Riwar Circle) on September 20 pushed back non-local labourers from Pynursla, for not possessing valid documents.
The labourers were supposedly engaged at the building of the Civil sub-division Pynursla when they were hauled up by members of the pressure groups from Pynursla parking lot.
According to Evanfield Khonglam president, FKJGP Ri War circle, these labourers had in their possession licences to work in Sohra.
“We are surprised that with the same labour licence they were allowed to work here in Pynursla,” Khonglam said.
The KSU and the FKJGP criticised authorities of Pynursla Civil Sub Division for not taking the issue seriously. “These incidents are no longer new but we often find such mismanagement by the authorities and which are taken advantage of by contractors,” Wallamjingshngain Suting KSU South Central East circle president said.
