District Council Affairs Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday said that no time frame has been set for the Local Fund Audit to submit findings into the alleged misappropriation of funds in the Jaiñtia Hills and Garo Hills Autonomous District Councils.
“Since the government will have to take action (if the findings points towards financial mismanagement) the report has to be correct. It is for that reason we did not set any timeline,” Rymbui told reporters today.
The State government had in September asked the Director of the Local Fund Audit (DLFA) to conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds.
“We don’t want this (probe) to be a formality since it involves allegations and counter allegations of financial misappropriations,” Rymbui said.
According to the District Council Affairs Minister, after the report is submitted to the government, it will have to thoroughly study the findings of the report if there really are irregularities as alleged.
Rymbui stated that the government is transparent and will not hide anything important; adding that the probe has commenced and hoped it will be ready at the earliest.
On September 8, 2020, the BJP alliance partner of the NPP led MDA government levelled serious corruption charges against the NPP-led Executive Committee alleging misuse of funds amounting to over Rs 34 crore.
