Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Ernest Mawrie today could not give any update on whether or not Meghalaya will be granted the sought for Inner Line Permit (ILP).
Speaking to reporters, Mawrie said that the central government is still examining the matter. The state Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution in favour of ILP in December 2019 but there has apparently been no movement on the subject, though the state government has repeatedly raised the issue.
Asked if the central government could announce the implementation of ILP just before Meghalaya goes to the polls next year, he said, “I can’t say about that but it may happen also, we don’t know. But let us wait since it is still being examined.”
Mawrie also said that state BJP leaders also raise the matter of ILP with visiting Union ministers. In fact, he asserted, it is always the first subject they discuss.
