Shillong, Aug 20: The Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MIDC) has refuted reports of it acquiring land at Umtham stating it was false and baseless.
“MIDC has no plans, proposals, or efforts to acquire land at Umtham or anywhere else in Ri Bhoi district at this stage,” an official statement said today.
The Ri Bhoi Youth Welfare Organisation (RBYWO) yesterday in a statement stated that the corporation plans to acquire 14 acres of land at an inflated rate of Rs 450 per square feet amounting to Rs. 21 crore, when the actual rate in the area is reportedly below Rs.150 per square feet.
“We urge media houses in Meghalaya to exercise greater responsibility by verifying facts with the Corporation before publishing such reports. Unverified information of this nature not only misleads the public but also amounts to spreading fake news and unjustly tarnishes the reputation of the Corporation,” the statement reads.
The MIDC said it is committed to transparent functioning and to advancing the industrial development of Meghalaya in a fair and responsible manner.
