Cabinet minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, of the regional Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), has urged the youth of the state to stay calm and not resort to any kind of aggression while the government is pursuing the cause of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
Tongkhar assured the public that the state government is not sitting idle on the Assembly’s resolution last year called for the implementation of ILP in Meghalaya.
“The last time we met the Union Home Minister on ILP there was no concrete assurance that this will be done, neither was there any direct rejection but we were told that the ministry is still examining the entire aspect,” Tongkhar said, adding that it is only through dialogue that this can be achieved.
“I believe that the youth of this generation are all well educated and enlightened and they should understand that we need to debate to see that what really benefits us is obtained sensibly. If we resort to aggression that only brings losses to our own people and the development of the state then it is not worthwhile because this will bring losses only to the people of our state and no one else,” he maintained.
