United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Titosstarwell Chyne today expressed confidence that his party will secure at least 15 seats in the Meghalaya Assembly election, results of which will be known tomorrow.
Chyne is one of the UDP hopefuls, as the MDC looks to make a return to the Assembly as representative for Sohra after five years out.
At a party meeting yesterday, all the candidates, barring those from Garo Hills, expressed confidence that they will win, Chyne said today. The UDP has no MLAs in Garo Hills at present but is hopeful of making a comeback in the region.
On potential coalition allies, Chyne said that, in his personal opinion, the UDP should opt for like-minded parties with similar ideologies.
Referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) persistent refrain that Meghalaya is riven with corruption, Chyne said, “I’m hopeful that the new government that will be formed will dig and find out if these allegations are true and not remain silent.”
