Tura, Sep 16: NITI Aayog has ordered a look into allegations by the Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) of the Garo Hills
Autonomous District Council (GHADC) of the misuse of funds by the council.
The NGEA, which purportedly represents more than 1,700 employees of the GHADC, along with a social activist, Kingstone B Marak, had earlier sent a complaint to the central government
seeking a stop to funding over non-payment of salaries for the past 28 months in the GHADC.
In an order dated September 9 by the section officer of NITI Aayog, the Union Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) has been asked to enclose the complaint by the NGEA
Joint Secretary with a request to examine the matter
and intimate action directly to the complainant.
The grievance in question as per the email by NITI GHADC employees hit out at council Secretary Aayog stated ‘request not to sanction financial assistance to the GHADC, Tura, Meghalaya for implementation of various projects in the area covered under Sixth
Schedule of the Constitution and to conduct an inquiry with regard to the nonimplementation and irregularities in implementation of
schemes sanctioned by Ministry of Finance, GOI’.
The NGEA has been in a pitched battle with the GHADC EC over non-payment of salaries of 28 months to them with the matter now being fought in the High Court of Meghalaya. Allegations of
fund misuse have also been leveled against the MDCs of the Council, both from the central pool under NITI Aayog as well as the council’s own revenue.
